Recently I got a copy of RailsSpace, a book on Community website built with Ruby on Rails. It's easy to follow and informative, reveals rails specificities in an iterative way.
Task is king for a programmer. The big task for the book is to build a community website with individual profiles, blogs and friendships. The basic idea is driven by an alumni - not a big-beta-web2.0 app to be sure; but to learn a framework, its ideal: easy to comprehend and complete. All the necessary functions of modern websites are present: from browse to search, from blog to image upload and getting acquaintance with other people in a harmless way.
But there is more: its fun! Coding has to be fun, of course - and learning too! I can tell these guys have a good sense of humor.
Let me point out that the non-ruby background authors have makes a difference with other rails topic books I read before. It seems they are hackers with good background of Python, C and several operating systems. Functionality and simplicity rule the elegance.
To summing up it is worth while to get your own copy of the book. Go take a look a sample before you buy.
