Well it was not so funny like the title of this post (Open Source Software Experience Week End). I wanted to replace my MS Windows XP to any Linux dist I can get after an annoying incident (won't go into details).
First I tried my favorite Debian with a jump from Etch to Lenny. It took 1 complete hackathon day without success; ffs a single lib can kill this aptitude upgrade! (It was docbook-xml...)
Ok nevermind we have a nice Afro style distro called Ubuntu. Man it's a fucking hype. Easy to install and manage but hey where is my default screen resolution?! And it is a Nvidia card with an oldie Samsung LCD that every fucking BSD can see. Half a day lost. Will never do it again.
On the contrary the Red Hat based Fedora 7 (and the 9 upgrade) worked seamlessly from the first moment! Automatically recognized and set my graphic card and monitor... Awesome. A real desktop linux at hand...
